The EVduty Smart Current Sensor is now available. This device makes it possible to install an EVduty charging station without having to up the electrical panel amperage capacity. Another context of use is when an electrical panel is located in a unit in a multi-dwelling building while the electricity meter is elsewhere, in the basement for example.
This product is exclusive to EVduty and was developed by Elmec's engineering team. It provides an effective and affordable solution to certain problems related to the electrical installation for condos and apartments or for situations where the electrical panel’s power is limited.
This product consists of a smart current sensor that transmits its data over the local network via Ethernet or WiFi to one or more EVduty EVC30 smart charging stations connected to the same local network. The charging stations can thus reduce their maximum charging current so that the total current consumption (from the charging stations and other devices in the building) remains below the protection circuit breaker’s limit. Only charging stations from the EVduty brand can "communicate" with the current sensor via a configuration through the EVduty mobile application.
Use # 1: LIMITED ELECTRICAL PANEL
For an existing electrical panel that does not allow the addition of a 30A electrical load such as a charging station.
Install the current sensor between a circuit breaker that protects equipment with the same or equivalent electrical load and install a 40A circuit breaker for the EVduty EVC30 charging station.
Set up the sensor and charging station for a connection on the same local network and a "communication" between the two devices.
If the selected equivalent equipment is in use, only the remaining current portion will be available for charging with the EVduty EVC30 charging station. Ex: If the stove consumes 12A and is protected by a 40A circuit breaker, the current available for the charging station will be (40A x 80%) - 12A = 20A.
Use # 2: MULTI-DWELLING BUILDING
For a multi-dwelling building situation where electricity meters are in the basement while electrical panels are located in each individual unit. An individual unit’s owner wants to install a charging station and wants the electricity consumed to come from the electricity meter supplying the unit in order to pay for the electricity consumption related to vehicle charging in the electricity bill.
Install a 40A electrical panel on the 125A artery between the electricity meter and the individual unit’s main electrical panel.
Install a 40A circuit breaker in this sub-panel for the EVduty EVC30 charging station.
Install the current sensors on the main 125A cable to measure the current consumed by the individual unit and sub-panel for the charging station.
Set up the sensor and the charging station for a connection on the same local network and a "communication" between the two devices
If the individual unit consumes electricity, only the remaining current portion will be available for charging with the EVduty EVC30 charging station. Ex: if the individual unit consumes 80A and is protected by a 125A circuit breaker, the current available for the charging station will be (125A x 80%) - 80A = 20A.
This equipment is compatible with the EVduty EVC30 Smart-Home and Smart-Pro charging stations.
